About the Performance:

"Carmen Suite" — a one-act ballet — is inspired by the musical themes of Georges Bizet’s iconic opera Carmen. Composer Rodion Shchedrin reimagined Bizet’s score with a bold and inventive orchestral adaptation that retains its emotional richness while offering a strikingly fresh sound.

Originally choreographed by Alberto Alonso, the ballet is based on Prosper Mérimée’s classic novella Carmen — a timeless story of passion, freedom, desire, and inevitable tragedy.

At the heart of the story is Carmen herself: seductive, untamed, and fiercely committed to her own freedom. She defies convention, rejects loyalty, and lives on her own terms. Her fiery independence ultimately clashes with the obsessive love of Don José — a man willing to cross every boundary for her, with devastating consequences.

In this production, choreographer Gia Marghania brings a contemporary vision to the legendary tale, presenting a bold new stage interpretation of Carmen, brought to life by a dynamic cast of Georgian performers.
