Giorgi Margvelashvili
 
Giorgi Margvelashvili graduated from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University (formerly the Tbilisi State Theatrical Institute) in 1980 with a degree in drama directing.
 
His career has combined both creative and academic paths. He began teaching at his alma mater shortly after graduation and has since mentored multiple generations of students, playing a key role in the development of theatre education in Georgia.
 
Since 1989, he has been a director at the Mikheil Tumanishvili Film Actors’ Theatre, where he also served as Artistic Director from 2005 to 2009.
Since 2009, he has been the Chief Director of the Alexander Griboedov State Drama Theatre.
From 2014 to 2020, he served as Rector of the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University; from 2020 to 2023, he was an Advisor to the Rector, and as of April 2023, he holds the position of Deputy Rector.
In March 2024, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Kote Marjanishvili State Drama Theatre.

His directorial work has been widely recognized and awarded by professional organizations:
Theatre Workers’ Union Award for Directing (1995)
Best Director Prize, Rustavi Theatre Festival (1996)
Best Directing Award, Theatre Workers’ Union of Georgia (2001)
Best Experimental Directing, Rustavi International Theatre Festival (2004)
